BAT MASTERSON
This is our tintype of who we believe could be Bat Masterson . He was appointed U.S. Marshall for the Southern New York District in 1905 by Teddy Roosevelt . This lasted until 1907 when he resigned . I also read that he had been on a drinking binge for the two years prior to being appointed by Roosevelt. The Sheriff in our photo looks to have had a rough going lately. We think this tintype is from the early 1900's .We have compared this photo to a photo of Masterson as a younger aged man. .The badge on the Marshalls chest is shaped properly for the period.Taking the age difference into consideration his face matches well with the earlier photograph.. . Masterson was a lifelong friend of Wyatt Earp. You can read about Bat Masterson at the link below.
