WEeare very happy to have added a great tintype of Samuel Clemens , pen name Mark Twain, and three of his friends to our collection. I would date our tintype to around 1880 The photo shows Clemens sitting outdoors with three other men. We have matched up two of the men to known friends of Clemens. One would be William Den Howells and the other is David Gray of Buffalo. . Both lifelong friends of Clemens. We are unsure as to the other mans identity. Scratched in below the images is the phrase "The Four Bastards" A great American and one great tintype.
