This CDV was purchased with others out of California. It had the two men pictured names written on the back. One name said Buff Bill and we could not decipher the other. I had to do some reading on other men called Buffalo Bill other than Cody and found a William L "Buffalo Bill " Brooks. He was a lawman and also an outlaw .His supposed image, which can be found on some Western sites, is usually noted as possibly being him., Our photo is compared to the possible known image of Brooks. Our Buff BIll is wearing a rifle coat . Brooks was known to carry a rifle. A good candidate of being Buffalo BIll Brooks. He was hung in 1874. He wounded and was wounded by Morgan Earp in a shootout. The CDV is by Bayley & Cramer of San Francisco . The adress on the CDV was used by them for only one year in 1868. Bayley had a different partner in 1869. You can read more about Brooks at the link below.
